    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Turner came on with ten minutes remaining, a touching gesture from Sarina Wiegman after the game had already been wrapped up. Lotte Wubben-Moy opened the scoring after a minute before celebrating in unusual fashion, as Lauren Hemp starred again with a brace of headers before half-time. Ella Toone then came on to devastating effect with a goal within five minutes of coming on, as fellow substitute Rachel Daly scored late on to complete the thrashing – as she did against Austria on Friday.

WHAT NEXT FOR EARPS & TURNER?

The 5-1 victory continues the Lionesses' fine form, but United fans will hope it translates to an upturn in fortunes at club level. With Earps back in the line-up, Turner making her debut and Toone back firing, the Red Devils should be in with the best chance of chasing down the Champions League spots. They are currently seven points out and face West Ham in their next match on Sunday.
