Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has admitted that he is eager to win a starting place in England’s Euro 2012 campaign.

The Gunners attacker is in competition for a starting berth in Roy Hodgson’s side, and although he has stated that the team performance is the most important thing, he is also keen to impress individually.

“Going to a major tournament like this is not about individual players, it’s about getting the whole team right,” The Sun quote Walcott as saying.

“Everyone’s role is up for grabs and there is always competition for places.

“You have to train well and when you are given an opportunity you have to take it. It’s what you do on the pitch that matters and that is still the case if you are coming off the bench.

“With any new manager it’s always going to take time to get his team playing the way he wants.

“But with the quality we have in that dressing room we know we can go a long way at these championships if we just trust each other.

“We are a team playing without any fear and when players come off the bench they want to grab that opportunity.

“I’m training hard, looking after myself and feeling great. Hopefully I can show a bit more of that in a starting role next time.

“But the most important thing is that we perform well as a team and work as hard as we can,” he concluded.
